Leagues of Votann - A Reimagining - Part 6 - Planetary Processing

To create a terrifying planet-processing capability for the Votann in Warhammer 40k, we'll develop a special unit, the Planetary Processor, along with its stats, abilities, and tactics. This unit will represent the Votann's ultimate weapon to obliterate entire planets in response to invasions.

Planetary Processor

Keywords

  • Vehicle, Super-Heavy, Planetary Processor

Tactics

  1. Deployment: Place the Planetary Processor in the center of the battlefield where it can maximize its range and impact. Ensure it is supported by other Votann units to protect it from being overwhelmed by enemy forces.
  2. Offensive Strategy:
    • Planetary Processor Beam: Use this primary weapon to target the most dangerous enemy units, focusing on those with high toughness and numerous wounds. The beam’s high strength and AP will penetrate most defenses, and the additional mortal wounds will wear down even the toughest foes.
    • Massive Mining Drones: These should be directed at mid-range threats, such as enemy infantry and light vehicles. Their high rate of fire and decent damage output will clear the battlefield of lesser units.
    • Defensive Batteries: Keep these trained on any enemies that get too close, ensuring the Planetary Processor remains protected from assaults.
  3. Defensive Strategy:
    • Shield Generators and Void Shield: Use these abilities to mitigate incoming damage, making the Planetary Processor extremely hard to bring down. The invulnerable save and damage reduction will ensure it remains operational for most of the battle.
    • Planetary Processing Protocol: This ability will continuously damage nearby enemy units, creating a zone of death around the Planetary Processor. Use it to break up enemy formations and weaken them before they can launch a coordinated attack.
  4. Resource Harvest: As enemy units are destroyed, you gain Victory Points, representing the Votann’s efficient resource extraction. Use this to your advantage by focusing on weaker enemy units that can be easily destroyed to quickly accumulate points.
  5. Overall Strategy: The Planetary Processor is a weapon of mass destruction. Its role is to dominate the battlefield, forcing enemies to either engage it and face its overwhelming firepower or avoid it and lose control of key areas. Use its abilities and weapons to create kill zones and force enemy movements, controlling the flow of battle.

By integrating the Planetary Processor into your Votann forces, you bring a terrifying and lore-friendly representation of their ultimate weapon, capable of obliterating entire planetary populations and making a profit in the process.

Leagues of Votann - A Reimagining - Part 5 - Votann Murderworld Preparation

1. Environmental Manipulation

The Votann use their advanced technology to alter the environment, creating hazardous conditions that can be triggered remotely.

  • Weather Control Stations: Devices that can create sudden storms, intense heat, or blizzards, affecting visibility and mobility.
  • Seismic Disruptors: Machines that can cause localized earthquakes, destabilizing the ground and creating chasms or landslides.
  • Poisonous Flora: Genetically modified plants that release toxins or entangle intruders, camouflaged to look like native vegetation.

2. Automated Defenses

The Votann deploy an array of automated defenses to deter and eliminate intruders.

  • Turret Networks: Hidden turrets equipped with high-powered lasers, plasma cannons, and missile launchers, activated by motion sensors or remote control.
  • Drone Swarms: Small, agile drones programmed to patrol the area, attack intruders, or gather intelligence. These drones can also deploy nanite clouds to disrupt enemy electronics.
  • Minefields: Both traditional and high-tech mines that can be triggered by proximity, pressure, or remote activation. Some mines may release EMP bursts or neurotoxins.

3. Traps and Ambushes

Strategically placed traps and ambush points ensure that even the most cautious enemies are caught off guard.

  • Pitfalls and Snares: Concealed pits with retractable covers, snares that capture and immobilize, and sections of ground that collapse under weight.
  • Holographic Projections: Illusions that mislead enemies into traps or ambushes, including false terrain, decoy units, and hidden pathways.
  • Automated Ambush Units: Robotic units lying in wait, camouflaged to blend with the environment, ready to spring into action when enemies are detected.

4. Psychological Warfare

The Votann use psychological tactics to disorient and demoralize their enemies.

  • False Signals: Broadcasting false distress signals, enemy communications, or misleading tactical data to confuse and mislead.
  • Holographic Decoys: Projecting images of enemy forces, false objectives, or harmless creatures to lure enemies into traps.
  • Auditory Disruption: Using sound devices to create disorienting noises, mimic enemy voices, or induce panic and fear.

Leagues of Votann - A Reimagining - Part 4 - Votanns and Infiltration.

The Votann, known for their technological prowess, have developed advanced neuro-drone implants. These tiny devices can be surgically implanted into captured individuals, turning them into unwitting spies. Once implanted, the neuro-drone establishes a connection to the Votann network, feeding real-time intelligence back to their operators without the host's knowledge. The technology is so advanced that it leaves minimal trace, allowing the individual to be released back into society without raising suspicion.

Game Mechanics

Special Rule: "Neuro-Drone Implant"

Neuro-Drone Implant:

  • Description: The Votann have perfected the art of covert surveillance through the use of neuro-drones. These implants allow the Votann to gather intelligence and even control key individuals from a distance.
  • Effect: At the start of the battle, select one enemy character. That character is implanted with a neuro-drone (this is not revealed to the opponent until activated).

Activation:

  • Trigger: At the beginning of any Votann turn, you may choose to activate the neuro-drone. When activated, the following effects apply:
    • Surveillance: The Votann player can see the enemy player’s hand of stratagems and any hidden units or deployments.
    • Remote Control: Once per game, the Votann player can take control of the implanted character for one turn. During this turn, the character can move, attack, and use abilities as if it were part of the Votann army.

Detection and Removal:

  • Counter-Play: The enemy character can attempt to detect and remove the implant. At the end of each of their turns, they may roll a D6:
    • On a roll of 6, the implant is detected and neutralized, removing all effects immediately.
    • Certain psykers or tech-savvy units may grant a +1 bonus to this roll.
