Post-apocalyptic Pro Wrestling - Part 2 - Additional Notes, Nomadic Groups, Key Npcs and Key Locations

Special acknowledgment of LoboGuara5bruxaria and TheBlueHour, from spacebattles.com, John Lamb
Kelly Warren and others from the Facebook group Post-apocalyptic Role Playing Games,  and the good folks at rpg.net for a lot of this that came from their own twisted imaginations.

Psychic Wrestling Theory.

One theory is that everyone has psychic potential and passively produces psychic energy, but few have the proper genetics and "energy reserves" to truly wield these psychic powers. Still, because of the presence of both background psychic energy combined with high levels of radiation spread across the united states these two kinds of energy have combined and created a couple of Pure Energy Beings that travel around the Post Apocalypse world. These entities generally passively observe the world around them without giving judgment or directly interfering on Human sociopolitics, but they can all be persuaded to help some individual people and factions if said factions/people have enough resources and understanding of these Pure Energy Beings' morality to pull it off.

The Belts.

Belts are high tech, possibly magical devices that somehow allow the wearer to share wrestling experience. A person wearing a wrestling belt is no stronger than before, but somehow his skill and experience are partially transmitted to his followers. Needless to say, belts grant a massive strategic advantage and are amongst the most coveted of old-world magi-tech.

Wandering Factions

Chikara

Their name comes from the Japanese Kanji for strength, there was once a promotion in Philadelphia Pennsylvania known for highly cerebral and pretty goofy style.

Their Temple/Dojo was destroyed by the WWWE, so these esoteric wrestlers now wander the continent acting as hired guns and senseis for the next generation.

Most wrestlers make fun of their talk of Chi energy and refer to it as the power of the cheese. :D

Gone Warrior

"Gone warrior" is a term for when wrestlers get possessed and start running in packs, tearing through anything that gets in their way. They are supernaturally enhanced even if their technique is best to be desired. They appear anywhere on the continent and often disappear without warning.

Wicked Walkers

There exist a "Horde" of wandering mutants simply know as the "Wicked Walkers" which consist of a small but growing number of random mutants and close family members from all across North America that travel across the lands to show their feats of physical and fighting powers, as well as testing them against a legendary wrestler with mixed results. Despite their reputation, they aren't a particularly violent group, but they do like to pass an image of "Fearsome Warriors" and they generally parade their most visibly mutated members as spokesman and mascots of their group for the sake of further cementing this Image, even if said spokespersons are too mutated to walk properly, let alone actually fighting...

There is a rumor of a single wrestler organizing the mutants.  He is simply known as the Mastadon and is rumored to be a super mutant of immense strength and durability.

Unique NPCs

Alicia Clementine 'The God of Death' Bellamy.
Despite having been driven insane by the loss of her family, and further insane after she transferred her consciousness into a horde of mind-controlling brain flukes so she could live forever, Alicia is amongst the most intelligent people in the world and the greatest geneticist and biologist on the planet. Too physically weak to enter most fights herself, she instead sells her biotechnology, most notably performance-enhancing combat steroids, to wrestling federations. This has led to several infamous scandals, like a planned duel between two federations that dissolved into a bloodbath with practically no survivors of either party after it was discovered that one side did not dose their fighters with combat steroids as had been previously agreed by the rules. She is responsible for the creation of the cyberbrain drake.

The Announcer.
This spirit resembles a mix of several small mammals that can fly, and whatever he finds two or more powerful fighters duking out, the Announcer projects a "film" of the fight for everyone in the country to see, while the Announcer projects his mental voices to provide "commentary" on said fight. The only reason why these mental projections don't cause mass death is because they only last a few mini-seconds outside the minds of everyone who receives said mental projections.

The Brain and the Gorilla.
Located smack dab in the center of the continent, in NWA heart of wrestling territory, the signal gets sent back to a gargantuan cybernetic brain, that is supported by an uplifted gorilla who do commentary. The Brain's name is Drake.

The Deadman.
Believed to have died in the depths of Death Valley, he is forever damned to wander the wastelands. He is the Ghost Story that makes even seasoned wrestlers sweat as he always comes back and has powers beyond the grave.

The Mad Maiden.
This vaguely female shaped robot made out of infernal iron and animal bones, she cheerfully serves as company and helper for Mr. Scratch in the deals he offers to mortals, but she is also a deadly machine that have slain any wrestler that made unwise moves against Mr. Scratch.  She is Hell's robot that everybody has been warned about.

Mama Critter.
This psychic energy being usually takes the form of a giant centipede, yet she talks like and old southern "grandma". Easily one of the most affably of the energy beings, but she has severe cynophobia, só unless you want to create a city wiping thunderstorm, don't bring your dog next to her.

And if you do, don't be surprised if, on the unlikely event of you surviving such devastation, the other survivors chase you out with pitchforks and any other firearms they have in hand.

The faction of the Western State Sports (Luchadors) has an overall quest to is to subdue the mighty energy beings like Mama Critter, but results have been mixed. Still, they did manage to subdue multiple "lesser" spirits to their fold, and most believe that subduing the "Greater Ones"* is an inevitability, so no worries if they lose a few trackers along the way of besting the Greater Ones.

The Mummy.
Henry the Mummy is an extremely well preserved "corpse" of an early mutant that while once an average guy in life, his body now currently resembles a vague mix of a gigantic alligator and crow. Alicia Clementine Found Henry body laying still in a muddy swamp, and multiple analysis has shown that Henry's body continuously produces a substance that, when properly worked with other chemicals, can be used to mutate another living organism in a more reliable and organized way that allows those who ingest it to gain body morphing abilities to varying degrees.

A large amount of said substance has already been extracted from the mummy, yet it seems that Henry's body can produce it in an almost endless manner. How exactly can such a body produce such insane amounts of the substance in defiance to the conservation of matter aren't clear, but Alicia theorizes that it may be a result of complex biochemistry combined with passive psychic power in some way or another?

Key Locations

Luxor, Nevada.
The arena is notorious for the spin the wheel, make the deal between third parties.  It is directed by "The snake" a man who may or may not be an aspect of Old Scratch.

Since it's hard to read the wheel, here's the list:
Coal Miner’s (Glove on a Pole) Match
Trick Or Street Fight
Blindfold Match
Casket Match
Chamber Of Horrors Match
Biker’s Chain Match
Buried Alive Match
Devil’s Playground Match
Boiler Room Brawl
Shotzi’s Choice
Weapon’s Wild Match

Piper's Pit

This castle ruins in  northern Saskatchewan is the home of the spirit of a legendary wrestler that is rumored to be the avatar of Dionysis. He will test your mind, body, and soul to the breaking point, but give great power to those that are worthy.

St. Louis' Main Ring.

This small ring is considered the center of wrestling.  Not the biggest or even the most well established, it is considered neutral ground for contentious issues between the factions.

Post-apocalyptic Pro Wrestling - Part 1 - An Overview and the Factions

I had this crazy idea for a premise. Anybody remember into the badlands? It's essentially post-apocalyptic kung fu. Instead of martial arts, my idea is based on professional wrestling in a post-apocalyptic world. I even have a map of the old territories.

Firstly the Map:

Using the old territory map as a basis but with a few tweaks.

The idea is that instead of going to war, they have champions that square off in the squared circle, winner takes all. Many of these champions have been mutated by radiation. some have innate psychic powers and some are just really skilled. However, their champions must be appeased as they are hired guns that go to the highest bidder.

The reason was for the invention of the Wrestling federations is because the rulers of the few remaining large settlements realized that humanity got really lucky to survive their last attempt to destroy themselves through war and they never wish for the human race to experience such a thing again. The leaders of various wrestling groups always unite against and destroy anyone who tries to switch back to more traditional means of warfare.

There are cults within the federations that mirror famous or popular wrestlers who also adopt the personas, mannerisms, etc. with the leaders all claiming to be the original (new champions continuing much like the Dread Pirate Roberts). The only weapons are found or discovered items like chairs, tree limbs, etc.

After all, he who has the belt, makes the rules:

************************************
If a wrestler dies, they end up in essentially a cross between Hell and Valhalla where they have to wrestle their way back to life.

Only the best of the best succeed (and also explains why certain real-life people actually might be around hundreds of years later).

Failure means you get drafted by hell's legions (possibly in a cell).

It is possible to avoid this fate, with the right affiliation (see the voodoo wrestling below) or anomaly.

************************************

Now that the premise is settled, it's time to go into the factions.

************************************

Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling (Moncton/Halifax)

In this kingdom, every man, woman and child are exposed to the radiation caves of madness which gives them unbelievable regeneration qualities with the side effect of "quirky" sanity.

They are further supported by the elders of Foley and Funk whom are the nicest madmen you are probably going to meet.

It also is home to a hardcore "clown college" that are used as muscle.

************************************

Canadian Athletics Production (Montreal)

Quebec is giant's territory. the radiation has given them gigantism and a distinct size advantage against the other territories.  Tool use and trickery are at a minimum as it is completely unneeded.

************************************

Stampede Wrestling (Calgary)

Stampede territory are essentially the Starks of this universe. They have minimal radiation mutation, kinda small, but they are simply the best technicians in the world and they are very tough. They also team up well together and keep "hit lists" on the other territories. After all, they have a lot of Hart.

and you do not want to end up in their dungeon. <eg>.

************************************

All-Star Wrestling (Vancouver)

All-Star Wrestling in the northwest corner of British Columbia, with its sizable Asian population, has mixed wrestling with Japanese Martial arts, Kung Fu and local tricks to produce a unique style all it's own.

It's based in the melting pot of Vancouver.

Stampeders and Dragons have this rivalry that causes no end of problems, which is only exasperated by their neighbors.  This often escalates by All-Star Wrestling bringing in new talent from Japan and China that have their own agendas.

************************************
Pacific Northwest Wrestling (Portland)

Pacific North West wrestling has a unique quality: They are all Sasquatches. While not as big as the Quebec giants, they are still pretty big, shaggy, and sneaky.
They have a special relationship with Warlord Ventura as he often recruits them as additional muscle. They often get into fights with the dragons and the stampeders.

While often mistaken for mutants, these fighters are actually literally a tribe of Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) that emerged from hiding after the old world was nuked halfway to oblivion. Their referee is a chupacabra, the very last of his species.

************************************
American Wrestling Association (Minneapolis)

AWA territory is controlled by Warlord Ventura. He is known for having technically perfect, but rude champions whom can shoot with the best of them. He also has done a lot of conspiracy studies and seems to have a relationship with a lot of the stranger wild monsters spawned from the radiation.

************************************

World Class Championship Wrestling (Dallas)

Dallas is one giant wrestling plantation controlled by Mr Dibese. His hand-picked henchmen are the Von Erichs, incredibly muscular champions with rumors of weather control thanks to their mutations.

************************************

Continental Wrestling Association (Memphis)

Memphis is a New Camelot with a country twist. Let by the beloved Honky Tonk King, who takes care of his people, but is willing to do anything to keep his kingdom secure. His champions are considered knights and are just as dirty against their opponents. The Mouth of the South relays all royal proclamations so they are heard by all, and is rumored to be the kingdom's fixer.

************************************

The South East Coast

The South East coast has recently merged together. The Crockett territories, Georgia and Florida have been restructured into an army that is infectious and claim to be bringing a New World Order that will claim the continent. Think Caeser's Legions with their new Rome being the ruins of Atlanta.

************************************

In South Carolina, smack dab in the middle of N.W.O. territory, there are the Glammazons. A place where abandoned females end up being trained into a league of their own. They double as acrobatic assassins and are rumored to have a series of secret portals across the continent. They were founded by legendary wrestlers who is rumored that their symbol, the medusa, is a lot more spot on than most realize.

They have a working relationship with the N.W.O. where they have a tendency to steal belts (which are artifacts in this world) and bring them back for reatunement or disenchanting.

************************************

Tri-state Wrestling area (Tulsa / New Orleans)

New Orleans in particular area a pirate/voodoo kabal. A legion of undead classic sewn mouth voodoo zombie wrestlers take over Louisiana. They recruit from the dead and those who lose against them.

Influenced in part by the following:

“Voodoo wrestling” is a real thing and it's empowering women in the Congo

************************************

Western States Sports (Armarillo)

Western States Sports is luchador territory. Besides their high flying action, they are really good at tracking down supernatural forces and making them submit They are also contrastingly, really good raiders as well creating kind of a robin hood feel to the territory.

This gives them serious conflict with Mr. Dibese and the voodoo wrestlers.

************************************

World (Wide) Wrestling Federation (New York)

This location is the branch office of the underworld.  "Mister Scratch", a charming yet shady dealmaker that likes to travel across the world and exchange either physical or "metaphysical" attributes of random people just for the kicks.  While varied in his appearance, the most common form is that of a thin man with a mustache in a business suit and a magician hat over his head.

It's hell on earth and where Mr. Scratch sends his contracts...eventually. :D

************************************
ECW Territory (Philadelphia)

Technically in the WWWF Territory, it is a resistance of extreme actions to slow them down. They put their bodies on the line that makes them crazy enough to do anything to stop them dead.  The small band of Dreamers and rebels (capitalization counts in that) who rally the free people of the Northeast against the World (Wide) Wrestling Federation.

They are also considered the political arm for the CZW.  A terrorist organization that exists to harrass the wwwe and the nwo in particular.

************************************

Muppets Now...well Now...some thoughts

 alrighty my full thoughts.

1. Using Scooter rather then Kermit as a framing device was a great choice.  It's like when Gonzo stepped up after hensons death. As defining him as the poor struggling content creator it really hits a lot of nerves (reminds me of what we wanted tgwtg to be).

2. Surprisingly few Muppets.   They have at most about a dozen appear.  Most of the classic Muppets are cameo artists.

3. Too much Piggy.  They are doing a good job with her, but they keep using her in everything.   Lifesty(le) is descent enough and Uncle Deadly as her straight man works, and I like Linda Cardellini as her bff, but when she leaks into other sections, she acts as a drain.

4. The Swedish Chef cook off challenge is great, but one note.  It's quality is completely dependent on the cooker.  Danny Trejo worked because he can cook, act and has great comedic timing (a triple threat).  but some of the other cook offs feel like its letting the air out of the room.

5. I do like the parody of mythbusters that Bunsen and Beaker do, complete with disclaimer from their lawyer (great new character).  It does a great job explaining scientific ideas and if anything beaker is picked on less then in the original series.

6. Peppi's game show isn't funny.  Needs serious retooling.

7. Gary showing other skills of muppets works better then expected, but Kermit as a photobomber kinda sucked.  Uncle Deadly showing chordeographed combat was awesome.

8. the guest interviews for the most part, don't work.  the one time it did work was with Fozzie (where for all my grumbles of the abc show, his changes actually worked and he is funny now) with the evil babies.

What I want:

1. an internet review show where they interview other internet sensations.  Of course they would be muppet sensations that would be used to test out new material.

2. Gonzo the great becomes a Spoony expy.  he creates original content but it is wierd and often requires Rizzo and friends to ensure that it doesn't go too out of the box.  i want a fake review of final fantasy or ultima dag nab it.  As well as get obsessed with the guest star and some of their more rare works.

3. I've long maintained I wanted a Red Green like Handyman's Corner staring Sweetums.  This format makes it work.

4. I want a Ralph the dog section where he goes over the history (completely fabricated) of  muppet music from the past.  Electric Mayham often guests and it goes about as well as expected.

5. A conspiracy website (not sure whom they should use).  It mainly talks about the great fraggle conspiracy.  Also the consistant rumor that Kermit might actually be Batman, as per this classic joke.

http://www.demotivation.us/christian-bale-vs.-kermit-the-frog-1258037.html

6. With Scooter acting as framing device, I can't think of a better time to do Skeeter as her overachieving sister for contrast.  Make her a fitness nut that really rubs miss piggy the wrong way.

7.  Robin and other young muppets keep sneaking in "ding dong" 2 minute clips into the file of random stuff they found.

8. parody of current youtube commercials as done by muppets that go horribly wrong.

expect this list to grow.

Composite '80s cartoon universe?

I had this idea a while back and decided to post it here for ease of reference.

*******************

I'm going to assume stuff off-planet is there, but either in a parallel dimension or nearby solar system for relative ease of reference.

(ex. Galaxy High, Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Sectaurs, The Mighty Orbots, Robotix, Visionaries)

I'm also going to go for relative popularity for the mainstays and use the more niche ones to fill in the connections.

Going to skip previous decades popular characters (ex. DC, Disney, Hannah Barbera, Marvel, Popeye) just to limit the focus as well as Star Wars.

I'll stick with the earth for the most part, with a slant towards North America.

1. So the big ones are

  • G.I. Joe
  • Transformers

Both have huge reach across the planet and would have serious influence. They also have serious connectivity already so any adjustments needed are minimal.

I'm using the setup of the G.I. Bureau as a response to Cobra as the beginning of this era.

The other major touch-point is the awakening of the ark.

Other series that have an earth-based influence that could be shoehorned in somewhere is as follows:

  • Bionic Six
  • Centurions
  • C.O.P.S.
  • Inspector Gadget
  • M.A.S.K.
  • Pole Position

I could very successfully argue that these are responses to transformer level technology either directly through acquisition or independent development through study.

2. Why are there smarter animals - human/animal hybrids and how did they form?

I'm going to steal from another fairly popular series for the explanation from tmnt: the krang has been doing experiments for generations to prep for ultimately terraforming the planet.

While krang is the most popular one, there is actually a lot of krang's race running around, doing something or another. A lot of the experiments were done in Canada (for isolation)

which explains the relatively high population of enhanced animals (ranging from the Littlest Hobo, to the Raccoons).

Some of their weirder experiments are everything from Barbapapa, the Killer Tomatoes, the California Raisins and the Madballs. :D

3. Magic and the supernatural in the 80's verse

Magic is rare but has an emotional and moral connection. Often magic is a focal point through an item or artifact. A few powerful ones don't even require any training.

  • Defenders of the Earth

4. There is also an increase in supernatural activity from beyond the grave. this has resulted in an arms race between the living and the dead in some areas.

  • Beetlejuice
  • The real ghostbusters

5. Near Dimensions:

The following are transdimensional locations that are somewhat connected and have a slightly different set of rules but are relatively easy to get to:

  • Carebears (their cloud city is technically in a pocket dimension)
  • Captain n the game master
  • Dungeons and dragon
  • Inhumanoids (technically deep within the earth, but it's actually a separate dimension inside the core).
  • Kidd Video

6. Misc

These are just a random grab bag that would be easy to integrate with the minimal explanation given:

  • Jem
  • Mr. T
  • Lazer Tag Academy

5. Prehistoric earth

Just wanted a placeholder for series that takes place before the common era that hasn't already accounted for:

  • Dinoriders

6. Post-apocalypse earth

There are 3 major post-apocalypse so the easy way to deal with all of them is they all happened but at different times.

  • Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future
  • Rock and Rule
  • Thundar the barbarian
